3 50-Minute YouTube Workouts To Do At Home (Brrrrr!)

As usual, I started my Friday morning off with a five-mile run. Without rhyme or reason, it’s just one of those ‘things’ I have. On Fridays, I run five — unless rain or wind or snow ย or crazy cold temperatures stop me. This morning, besides three glasses of red wine during dinner last night, I really had no excuse.

And so I ran.

In truth, it was kind of beautiful outside this morning. While today is supposed to be rainy and snowy and sleety, during the wee hours of the morning, it was actually pretty pleasant. The air was relatively warm (32 degrees IS warm these days), and the snow had just begun to flurry, but not so much so that it would ruin my morning miles. In fact, it even felt delicate and nice as the flakes landed ever so softly on my skin.

I planned to run a lot more than I actually did this week; I was only able to lace up and get out on Monday and today. For that, we can thank the polar vortex. I’ve been known to run in crazy conditions — blizzard condition half marathons and the likes. But when it comes to temperatures that can induce hypothermia, all I can say is count me out.

Note: You might be asking yourself right now, but wait a minute Stacy, I thought Thursday was warm enough to run. Well, you’d be absolutely right if that’s what’s going through your mind. And really, I was SUPER excited to run on Thursday after two days indoors — that is, until I walked into a stool and banged up my knee to the point that I couldn’t bend or put pressure on it. Not clumsy at all, right? Great.

Anyway, rather than risk any serious medical concerns on the cold days or exacerbate my throbbing knee on Thursday, I rolled out my yoga mat and got to work. Often, my indoor workouts take the form of stretching, drinking coffee and watching The Today Show. This time around, I meant business. After all, I’ll be on the beaches of Miami next week and in a wedding dress just two-and-a-half months after that.

Le sigh.ย Discipline is so hard.

So, if you’re looking to hit the weight room without going to a weight room (and possibly in booty shorts — no judgement), I really enjoyed these three living room workouts. As always, they’re brought to us by YouTube.

Workout 1

1. 8 Minute Abs (8 mins)

2. Core Fusion Pilates Plus (10 mins)

3. Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Level 1 (27 mins)

4. 8 Minute Abs (8 mins)

Total workout time = 53 minutes

Workout 2

1. 8 Minute Abs (8 minutes)

2. Core Fusion Pilates Plus (10 minutes)

3. NYLean25 (15 minutes total workout time)

4. 8 Minute Abs (8 minutes)

5. Tara Stiles Total Body Sweat and Tone (8 minutes)

6. 2 sets of 10 pushups.

Total workout time = 50-52 minutes

Workout 3

1. 8 Minute Abs (8 minutes)

2. Tara Stiles Morning Yoga for Flexibility (7 minutes)

3. Tara Stiles Morning Routine (5 minutes)

4. Ballet & Pilates Fusion: videos 1 & 2 (12 minutes)

5. 8 Minute Abs (8 minutes)

6. 10 minutes of arms. 3 sets of whatever you want — pushups, weights, etc.

Total workout time = 50 minutes

On another note, I’m running my first race — the Joe Kleinerman 10k in Central Park — since last September (no really, September 2012) tomorrow. Per usual, it’s supposed to rain — because I have the BEST luck with race day weather. Bring it, Mother Nature.
