For the first time in over a month, following Sunday’s 13.1-mile Rock ‘n’ Roll race through the streets of Philadelphia, I allowed myself to run back to back days — and boy did it feel spectacular.
I woke up on Monday morning at my parent’s house. It was Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish holiday that marks my people’s New Year, and I had just opened my eyes after one of the best nights of sleep in I’d had in weeks. 13.1 miles…
…a train ride back from Philly and a big Jewish meal filled with challah, soup veggies and insanely cute babies will do that to a girl.
Something else that made Monday morning special was that, not only did I wake up with the extreme urge to run, but after avoiding concurrent mornings spent pounding pavement since I first got injured, I was actually able to fulfill my every fantasy.
What started as a short recovery run through the suburbs in which I grew up soon turned into a solid 5 miles — nearly a whole hour of simply soaking in the cool, pre-fall air while listening to some mind-numbing electronic music and ogling the religious folk on their ritual walks to temple. Some spend the high holy days praying; the way I see it though, there is nothing more divine than running.
While sore from the previous day’s race, I nevertheless felt stronger — and more at ease in my own body — than I had in quite some time now, the pressure to race uninjured no longer bearing weight on my shoulders.
Because I plan on spending the rest of the week now recovering after logging 18 miles in 2 days (more mileage than I’ve been covering over the course of a full week!), and because I’m in such a giddy, giving mood, I’m dedicating this week to all of you. This Wednesday, I’m going back to basics; I’m running for glitter. And I want to give one lucky reader some glitter of their own.
That’s why I’m signing off — physically and mentally — until next week, and instead using this precious space on the Web I call my own to hold a very special Erica Sara Designs Race Bling Giveaway. From experience, I can tell you that I get crazy amounts of compliments on my own ESD bling. (I happen to own her monogram necklace, and if you’re wondering what the ‘A’ stands for, it’s Aron, and yes, it’s a boy’s name.)
If you or someone you love is participating in an upcoming race, then you’ll absolutely adore Erica Sara’s latest collection of city-inspired Race Bling.
The winner will receive one personalized silver Race Bling necklace on a cable chain with up to 3 personalized lines of custom engraving. You can check out this talented (and speedy!) designer and fellow runner’s Facebook page for more photos of your potential bling-to-be.
