When deep in the zone, concentrating on placing one foot after another and maintaining your breathing, it can be easy to lose sight of the details that surround you.

Something I’ve personally always loved about running outside — which is, if you haven’t picked up on it, the only kind of running I do — is getting this opportunity to engage in nature, especially when the rest of the day is typically spent cooped up in an office devoid of anything in the natural world.

This week, in honor of Will Run For Wednesdays, I’ve decided to run for all those little details that you’d otherwise miss while stuck in that highly-desirable and oh-so-awesome runner’s zone.

Snap out of it, and soak it all in. Otherwise, you might as well take it indoors to the dreadmill.

Ok, to some, this is just mold growing on random concrete structure in Central Park. But to me, it’s nature’s way of splatter painting; little colorful bursts that I wouldn’t have even thought twice about had I not stopped to stretch and take in the morning air.

Admittedly, I love stupid shit little details like these. I love taking a closer look, even if what you find is, well, something the park rangers will probably power wash away within the next month or so.

The fun didn’t stop there either. On Monday night, Noah “cooked” dinner — beer and cheese fondu nachos, to be exact. I really did love coming home to this…

…and this. We also melted onions, tomatoes, and jalapenos into the mix.

Adding my girly-I’m-so-healthy touch, I dipped whole grain Wasa crisps into the gooey elixir, and topped it off with nutritious veggies like grilled portobello mushroom, steamed green beans, and homemade guacamole (made from my simple recipe of avocados, tomatoes, red onions, jalapenos, fresh lemon juice, Tabasco sauce, and salt and pepper to taste).

When it was all said and done, I was wholeheartedly convinced that this meal really wasn’t as “bad” for you as nachos tend to be. (Also yes, my place mats are glittery.)

Plus, it was the perfect fuel for Tuesday’s final “training” run across the Queensboro Bridge and home in anticipation of The North Face’s Governors Island 10k this weekend.
